On 28 April 2005, Tourism Australia presented a seminar to raise awareness amongst key decision makers on the wonderful educational tours available in Australia.

The seminar was attended by more than 60 teachers and principals from targeted schools in Singapore, 22 travel agents, and Austrade representatives.

Singaporean education specialists such as Kathleen Yao, CEO of The Little Entrepreneur (TLE), shared their own study tour experiences to help local educationists better understand what Australia has to offer, especially in short study tours that focus on learning about innovation and enterprise from the Aussies.

Economics of Nature Trip

The 3 R’s (Reuse, Reduce, Recycle) mantra has never meant much to these students until they saw how Western Australian volunteers cared for their environment. Instead of waiting for the government to initiate programmes, they volunteered to learn about their environment in order to take care of it.

From checking the variety of water insects present in the river for health monitoring to plucking seeds off of non-native plants and identifying the many species (from insects to large mammals) that thrive in the bushland, the volunteers made an impact that not even a million dollar campaign could have created.

Students Making A Difference
“Australia is very big and has a lot of resources. By comparison, Singapore is very small with very little resources. Yet the Australians care more for their environment than we do.”
