A pioneering farmer in Thailand’s organic movement, Dr. Rosukon Poompanvong developed the garbage enzyme solution as she worked with farmers throughout Thailand and in Europe. She has succeeded in growing and marketing top-quality agricultural produce without using artificial fertilizers, only organic ones. The results of her work over the past quarter century have proven not only to be financially profitable but also in this day of ozone depletion and general pollution at no expense to the environment.
Everyone can do this with their organic waste at home. If you want the final product (which takes 90 days) to smell fresh, use only fruit scraps (or add in lemon peels, pandan leaves, other citrus fruit scraps) in your garbage enzyme solution.
Ingredients & Materials needed:
Black sugar (Asia) or molasses and maple syrup (West) – 100 grams
Organic kitchen waste – 300 grams waste
Water – 1,000 grams or 1 liter water
Plastic bottle or Plastic container (to allow for expansion- so don’t use glass)

Mark the container with a date and open daily in the beginning (around the first 30 days) to let out gases produced by fermentation. The ideal colour is dark brown- if it is black, add more sugar and water to kickstart the process again. Be patient, it will take around 3 months to ferment and produce a cheap and environmentally friendly product that is chock full of enzymes that are good to do the following:
(1) Use it as a household cleaning liquid (mopping floors, cleaning furniture, etc.)
(2) Remove foul odours, molds and grime in the kitchen and toilet
(3) As an anti-bacterial and anti-viral agent
(4) Drive away insects
(5) Clean carpets
(6) Laundry washing
(7) Fertilizer for plants (also natural herbicide and insecticide)
(8) Remove ticks from pets
